The future is bright the future is Green Park?

So why is the future 'Green Park' I hear you cry. Well I shall explain.

is a company owned and run by a Mr Robert Robinson aka the Welshpool Town Clerk. Why is this interesting?

Well sometime ago it was reported that the Town Council was to sell Burgess Land (Land held in Trust to the Town) for the development of Housing. Mr Robinson owns a property consultancy firm.

All the talk of development plans to the town have happened since Mr Robinsons employment. Yes, Welshpool needs to perhaps move on, but at the needs of the Town or at the needs of personal gain? Are we sure that Mr Robinson is impartial and not spoon feeding the Town Council with his ideas? Welshpool should not suffer with Retail Parks and New Supermarkets. We should be looking to create a town centre with more local businesses not Chain Stores and does Welshpool need another large Housing Estate full of houses nobody can afford.

Mr Robinson other past interests include being the Director of a group of estate agents & property management company called Curchods http://www.curchods.com/ . He certainly has contacts within the property development industry and I know that he owns several properties in the north that he lets out.

I have tried to find out if Mr Robinson has let the Town Council know about his past and present business interests, but as yet I have failed. I do not know if he has declared an interest and I have the sense that this is information is being withheld. The reasons, I dont know, but is Mr Robinson the only person on the Town Council to have an interest. I can only speculate.

I have informed the press and local conservative MP regarding this news, but they have also seemed to ignore this. I have no personal grievance with Mr Robinson, but I do think that this information is important so that it gives the people of Welshpool the chance to make up their own minds. After all Mr Robinson is the Town Clerk and represents the Town Council who you elect.
